How It Works?

Step 1: Consultation and Planning

The process begins with a consultation where the specialist evaluates the patient's hair loss and discusses their goals. A detailed plan is created, including the number of grafts needed and the design of the hairline.

Step 2: Preparation

On the day of the procedure, the donor area (usually the back or sides of the scalp) is shaved and cleaned. Local anesthesia is administered to both the donor and recipient areas to ensure the patient is comfortable and pain-free.

Step 3: Extraction

Using a specialized micro-punch tool, the surgeon carefully extracts individual hair follicles from the donor area. These follicles are typically taken in groups of one to four hairs to ensure a natural look.

Step 4: Storage and Preparation of Follicles

The extracted follicles are stored in a special solution to maintain their viability. They are also carefully examined and prepared under a microscope to ensure they are suitable for transplantation.

Step 5: Recipient Area Preparation

The recipient area (the balding or thinning area) is then prepared by making tiny incisions where the hair follicles will be implanted. The surgeon considers the natural direction and angle of the hair to create a natural-looking result.

Step 6: Implantation

The prepared hair follicles are meticulously implanted into the recipient sites. This step requires precision to ensure the follicles are placed at the correct angle, depth, and density to mimic natural hair growth patterns.

Step 7: Post-Operative Care

After the procedure, the patient is given detailed instructions on how to care for their scalp and newly transplanted hair. This includes guidelines on washing, avoiding certain activities, and medications to aid healing and prevent infection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a hair transplant cost in Malaysia?
How long does hair grow after a transplant?

After a hair transplant, the transplanted hairs typically go through several phases of growth. Here's a general timeline of what to expect:

  • Initial Healing Phase (0-2 weeks):
    • Immediately after the transplant, the transplanted hairs enter a resting phase and may shed within the first two weeks. This is normal and temporary.
  • Early Growth Phase (2-6 weeks):
    • New hair growth begins as the follicles enter the anagen (growth) phase. Initially, the hairs may be fine and thin.
  • Establishment Phase (3-6 months):
    • The transplanted hairs continue to grow, gradually thickening and becoming more visible. Some patients may experience temporary shedding around this time, which is known as "shock loss," but the follicles remain active and will regrow.
  • Maturation Phase (6-12 months):
    • By this stage, most patients see significant improvement in hair density and thickness. The transplanted hairs continue to mature and blend in with the existing hair.
  • Final Results (12-18 months):
    • The full results of the hair transplant typically become evident around 12 to 18 months post-procedure. At this point, the transplanted hairs should have reached their full length and density.
